This extraordinary journey takes us deep into the fascinating worlds of the Maya, Aztec, Toltec and Mixtec civilizations, where magnificent pyramids and mysterious temples bring Mexico's rich past to life. Along the way, we discover the country's remarkable history, vibrant culture and contemporary way of life while experiencing its extraordinary landscapes, diverse wildlife and world-renowned cuisine. Following in the footsteps of the Spanish conquistadors, we explore elegant colonial cities, encounter living Indigenous traditions and marvel at the breathtaking contrasts of white-sand beaches, turquoise seas, lush rainforests and snow-capped volcanoes.
Welcome to Mexico City! In the afternoon, we arrive in the vibrant capital of Mexico,
situated at 2,240 metres (7,350 ft) above sea level. After transferring to our centrally
located hotel, there is time to freshen up before immersing ourselves in the city's legendary culinary scene.
Our first evening is all about authentic Mexican flavours. At a traditional taquería,
we savour freshly prepared tacos al pastor, perfectly seasoned and carved straight from
the spit. Accompanied by an ice-cold Corona beer, we raise a toast to the beginning of an
unforgettable journey through one of the world's most fascinating countries.

Our day begins at the colourful Mercado Jamaica, the largest flower market in Latin America.
The air is filled with the fragrance of roses, hydrangeas and vibrant orange cempasúchil
marigolds, while thousands of flowers and plants transform the market into a spectacular
feast for the senses. Next, we explore Mexico City from a different perspective—by bicycle.
Accompanied by experienced ride marshals who ensure a safe and relaxed experience,
we cycle through the city's most iconic landmarks. Our route takes us past the impressive
Zócalo, the National Palace, and into the expansive Chapultepec Park, where centuries-old
trees, sculptures and murals by the renowned artist Diego Rivera create a fascinating blend of nature, history and art.
To round off the day, we visit the outstanding National Museum of Anthropology, one
of the world's finest museums of its kind. Here, treasures such as the famous Aztec
Sun Stone, monumental Olmec heads and meticulously reconstructed temples bring Mexico's
great pre-Hispanic civilizations vividly to life. Even those who are not usually museum
enthusiasts are likely to leave inspired.

Today is a feast for all the senses. We begin our morning at the vibrant Mercado de San Juan,
diving into Mexico's extraordinary culinary traditions. Surrounded by colourful spices,
fiery chillies, exotic ingredients and even insect delicacies, we discover the adventurous
side of Mexican cuisine—including the famous dark mole enchiladas, a true symbol of the
country's rich culinary heritage.
We then continue to the charming neighbourhood of Coyoacán, where we visit the
iconic blue-painted Casa Azul, the former home of Frida Kahlo. Her artwork, personal
belongings and intimate living spaces tell a deeply moving story of creativity,
resilience, passion and a life marked by both pain and artistic brilliance. Next door,
the Leon Trotsky Museum offers fascinating insights into the revolutionary's years in
exile and his connections with Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
At lunchtime, we explore the Mercado de Coyoacán, where traditional flavours
ranging from pre-Hispanic recipes to modern Mexican specialties invite us to
taste the diversity of the capital's cuisine.
In the afternoon, we slow down on the enchanting canals of Xochimilco. Aboard a
colourful traditional trajinera, accompanied by lively Mariachi music and local delicacies,
we drift through this unique cultural landscape. Our final stop is the mysterious
Isla de las Muñecas (Island of the Dolls)—a legendary and eerie place filled with
countless hanging dolls, surrounded by stories, myths and mystery.

Before sunrise, we leave the city and head northeast towards one of Mexico's most iconic
archaeological treasures. For those who wish, the day begins with an unforgettable optional
experience: a hot-air balloon flight over the pyramids of Teotihuacán. As the first rays
of sunlight bathe the highlands in golden light, we float silently above the ancient city—a truly magical and unforgettable moment.
Back on solid ground, we explore Teotihuacán, once the largest metropolis of ancient
Mesoamerica. We walk along the legendary Avenue of the Dead and, for those who wish,
climb the impressive Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, following in the footsteps of a
civilization whose mysteries continue to fascinate to this day.
Our journey continues to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico’s most important
pilgrimage site and a powerful symbol of the fusion between Indigenous beliefs and Catholic traditions.
In the afternoon, adventure awaits beneath the surface: equipped with helmets and hammers,
we descend into an active opal mine. Here we experience first-hand how this precious gemstone
is extracted from the rock and later transformed into beautiful works of art.
As the day comes to an end, we reach the charming village of Mineral de Pozos.
Once a forgotten ghost town after the decline of its mining industry, it has been reborn
as a creative haven filled with artists, colonial charm and a unique atmosphere.

In Mineral de Pozos, we step back into the world of Mexico’s mining past. Surrounded by
the ruins of former haciendas, we put on our helmets and, accompanied by a local miner,
descend into an old silver mine. Where gold, lead and mercury were once extracted, we
gain fascinating insights into the challenges and traditions of historic mining.
In the afternoon, we arrive in Guanajuato, a colonial gem nestled in a narrow valley.
The city captivates with its colourful architecture, winding alleyways and unique
underground road network—former mining tunnels that now serve as bustling streets.
During our walking tour, we discover the Jardín de la Unión, the magnificent Teatro Juárez,
the impressive university and the historic aqueduct, while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of this enchanting city.
Our final visit of the day takes us to the fascinating and unusual Mummy Museum. Here,
naturally preserved bodies from the 18th and 19th centuries offer a remarkable glimpse into
Mexico’s unique relationship with death and remembrance. A visit that is both mysterious and
thought-provoking—somewhere between fascination, reflection and surprise.

After a scenic drive through charming mountain villages, we arrive in Valle de Bravo, a
picturesque town known for its terracotta rooftops, mist-covered hills and colonial charm.
Its inviting streets are perfect for a leisurely stroll, with cosy cafés, small boutiques
and perhaps a taste of esquites—a beloved Mexican street food specialty.
Depending on the season, the afternoon offers two different experiences. Outside the
butterfly season, we enjoy a relaxing boat ride on Lake Avándaro, surrounded by the
beautiful mountain landscape. From November to March, however, nature presents one of
Mexico’s most extraordinary spectacles: millions of monarch butterflies gathering in the
Piedra Herrada Butterfly Sanctuary. Their brilliant orange wings transform the pine forests into a living work of art.
A hike of around three hours (horseback riding available as an optional alternative) takes
us to a viewpoint where we witness this magical phenomenon. As the butterflies take flight
in the sunlight and the forest seems to come alive and dance around us, we experience a moment of pure natural wonder.

Today takes us on a spectacular journey through the Nevado de Toluca National Park,
reaching altitudes of more than 4,200 metres (13,800 ft). Surrounded by a dramatic
volcanic landscape, the turquoise waters of the two crater lakes—Laguna del Sol and
Laguna de la Luna—create a breathtaking contrast against the rugged terrain. After a
refreshing picnic, experienced hikers have the option to continue towards the crater
rim at almost 5,000 metres, a truly exhilarating high-altitude experience.
In the afternoon, we descend along winding mountain roads to Taxco de Alarcón, one
of Mexico’s most beautiful colonial silver towns. Whitewashed houses with red-tiled
roofs cling to the hillsides, while narrow cobbled streets lead us to the lively
Plaza Borda, the heart of the city. Dominating the square is the magnificent Santa
Prisca Church, a masterpiece of Mexican Baroque architecture.
Our hotel is located right on the main square, surrounded by charming cafés, lively bars,
traditional fondas and small workshops showcasing Taxco’s famous silver craftsmanship.
Whether enjoying a morning café de olla with cinnamon or sipping a tequila in the evening
while overlooking the city’s rooftops, Taxco offers an authentic taste of Mexico’s vibrant spirit.

In the morning, we make our way down through the narrow streets and steep stairways of Taxco,
passing colourful laundry hanging above the alleys, flower-filled balconies and children
playing football between the historic houses. Our destination is a traditional silversmith
workshop in the heart of the city. Those who wish can take part in a unique hands-on experience:
creating their own personal silver ring from a simple silver sheet—cutting, shaping,
polishing and transforming it into a one-of-a-kind souvenir (optional).
We then visit a workshop outside the city where ancient pre-Hispanic techniques blend
with contemporary designs. This fascinating encounter offers insight into the living
craftsmanship and artistic heritage of the region.
In the afternoon, we leave the mountains of Guerrero behind and travel into the rugged
beauty of the Mixteca Baja, one of Oaxaca’s most remote yet culturally richest regions.
A landscape of dramatic mountains, traditional communities and centuries-old traditions awaits us.

Today we travel into the heart of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, where the rich heritage
of the Zapotec people continues to thrive. In San Agustín Etla, we visit a unique handmade
paper workshop that produces beautiful paper from natural fibres—a project founded by the
renowned Mexican artist Francisco Toledo.
During our visit, we gain fascinating insights into this sustainable craft and learn how
traditional techniques, local knowledge and environmental awareness come together.
The workshop is run by members of the community, offering an authentic encounter with
the people who keep this special art form alive.
In the evening, we arrive in Oaxaca de Juárez, the charming capital of the state.
With its elegant colonial buildings, cobblestone streets, colourful markets and lively cafés,
this UNESCO World Heritage city invites us to slow down and immerse ourselves in its unique atmosphere.

This morning we visit Monte Albán, the spectacular former capital of the Zapotec civilization,
dramatically situated on a mountain plateau overlooking the valleys of Oaxaca. Surrounded by history,
breathtaking views and impressive archaeological remains, this sacred site offers a fascinating glimpse into one of Mesoamerica’s greatest cultures.
Our journey continues to the legendary Árbol del Tule, the world’s widest tree, measuring more
than 56 metres in circumference and estimated to be over 2,000 years old. In Teotitlán del Valle, one of
Oaxaca’s most traditional weaving villages, we visit a local family and discover how beautiful
textiles and carpets are created using ancestral techniques passed down through generations.
In the afternoon, we hike through the Tlacolula Valley to ancient caves decorated with prehistoric
rock paintings.
This region is considered one of the places where the early domestication of
maize began—a turning point that shaped the history of Mesoamerica.
After a tasting at a local mezcal distillery, we continue to the spectacular petrified
waterfalls of Hierve el Agua. A refreshing swim in the mineral-rich pools, overlooking the
surrounding mountains, provides a magical ending to a day filled with culture, nature and unforgettable landscapes.

After a leisurely breakfast, we fly to Campeche or Mérida and continue to the charming coastal city
of San Francisco de Campeche—a true hidden gem away from the usual tourist routes.
The UNESCO World Heritage old town captivates with its colourful colonial façades, wrought-iron
balconies, cobblestone streets and nostalgic sounds of vintage cars and scooters passing through
the historic centre. Here, history unfolds around every corner: founded in 1540 after several
failed Spanish conquest attempts, Campeche became an important trading port and defensive stronghold for centuries.
During our walking tour, we discover the city’s architectural treasures, including baroque
churches such as the Ex-Templo de San José, the lively Plaza de la Independencia with its
elegant pavilion, and the traditional shoe shiners who remain a charming part of Campeche’s daily street life.
In the late afternoon, we climb the almost three-kilometre-long city walls, once built to
protect Campeche from pirate attacks. From here, we enjoy a spectacular sunset as golden
light bathes the colourful colonial buildings—a perfect moment to appreciate the magic of this historic city.

Our day begins in the small town of Hecelchakán, where we taste one of the Yucatán
Peninsula’s most iconic dishes: cochinita pibil—tender pork traditionally slow-cooked
overnight in an underground pit oven and wrapped in banana leaves. A vegetarian alternative is also available.
We continue to a traditional Maya cemetery, where colourful bone houses and decorated wooden
boxes containing the remains of loved ones reveal a deeply rooted connection between life,
death and remembrance. In a nearby bakery, we learn more about Pan de Muerto, the traditional
“bread of the dead”—a sweet delicacy with centuries of cultural significance.
In Bécal, we visit a cave workshop where artisans create the famous jipi-japa hats
(often known as Panama hats) from the fibres of the jipijapa palm. Thanks to the
naturally humid microclimate inside the limestone caves, the delicate fibres remain
flexible enough to be woven into intricate designs.
In the afternoon, we reach the peaceful coastal village of Celestún, home to graceful
pink flamingos. By small boats, we carefully approach these elegant birds in the
lagoon and observe them in their natural habitat. Afterwards, we enjoy a late lunch
at the palm-fringed beach, with the option to take a refreshing swim in the Gulf of Mexico.
The day ends in a relaxed atmosphere at a charming hacienda with a pool, surrounded by the tranquillity of the Yucatán countryside.

Today begins at a relaxed pace before we are welcomed by a Maya family for a very special
culinary experience. Together, we prepare a traditional multi-course meal in an underground
pib oven, an ancestral cooking method passed down through generations. Cooking, sharing stories
and tasting the flavours of the region create a genuine connection between everyday life and ancient Maya knowledge.
In the afternoon, cacao takes centre stage. At the Chocolate Museum of Uxmal, we discover
the extraordinary importance of the cacao bean in Maya culture—used as currency, a luxury
ingredient and a sacred element in rituals. During an interactive workshop, we create our
own aromatic drinking chocolate and explore the differences between ancient preparations and modern recipes.
The day concludes with a powerful cultural experience: a traditional ceremony dedicated to
Chaac, the Maya rain god. Following a white sacbé (ancient Maya causeway) through the lush
surroundings, we reach a sacred Maya altar where a priest guides the ritual. Surrounded by
symbolism, spirituality and the beauty of the landscape, this intimate encounter offers a unique glimpse into the living traditions of the Maya world.

This morning, we step back into the era of the Yucatán’s sisal barons. At the historic Hacienda
Sotuta de Peón, we discover how the fibres of the henequén agave were once transformed into
durable materials for ropes, carpets and hammocks. The experience brings the region’s
fascinating agricultural heritage to life. The perfect finale: a refreshing swim in the
hacienda’s private Cenote Dzul Ha, hidden beneath the tropical vegetation.
We then explore the historic centre of Mérida, the elegant “White City”. On foot, we
stroll across the Plaza Grande, passing the cathedral, city hall and grand colonial mansions,
before continuing along the impressive Paseo de Montejo, Mérida’s famous boulevard inspired by European architecture.
Our journey continues to the glowing yellow city of Izamal, where a magnificent Franciscan
monastery stands on the foundations of an ancient Maya pyramid. With its golden façades,
quiet streets and peaceful colonial atmosphere, Izamal is a truly enchanting stop.
In the evening, we arrive at Chichén Itzá, the legendary heart of the Maya world. As dusk
falls and the crowds disappear, we experience this UNESCO World Heritage Site in a
completely different atmosphere. The temples glow in warm evening light, creating a mystical
setting. The highlight is the iconic Kukulcán Pyramid, brought to life beneath the stars with
classical music and a spectacular light show—a magical finale to an unforgettable day.

Early risers have the opportunity to experience Chichén Itzá in the golden glow of the
morning sun—before the crowds arrive and while the ancient temples are surrounded by
a peaceful silence. It is a truly special moment to connect with this legendary Maya site.
Afterwards, we continue north towards Chiquilá, where we board the ferry and leave
the mainland behind. A completely different world awaits us.
Our destination is Holbox, a Caribbean island straight out of a postcard. White sandy
beaches, turquoise waters, colourful hammocks swaying beneath palm trees and laid-back
beach bars with reggae rhythms create the perfect island atmosphere. Here, boats become
lounge areas, swings hang above the sand and time seems to slow down.
At lunchtime, we enjoy freshly caught garlic fish by the sea, accompanied by a cold Corona,
while the evenings are reserved for spectacular sunsets over the horizon—sometimes with dolphins appearing in the distance.
On Holbox, we simply relax, breathe and enjoy the beauty of island life. The next days
are dedicated entirely to rest, nature and the magic of the Caribbean.

The next two days are dedicated entirely to relaxation on Holbox. The island’s
name comes from the Maya language and means “black hole”—yet what awaits us
here is anything but darkness: endless white-sand beaches, shallow turquoise waters,
endless sandbanks and palm trees gently swaying in the Caribbean breeze.
Instead of cars, the island moves at a slower rhythm with bicycles and golf
carts as the preferred means of transport. Here, there is no rush—only the
relaxed pace of island life. Along the beach, the aroma of grilled fish and fresh
lobster drifts from the seaside restaurants, while seagulls and pelicans rest on
wooden piers overlooking the water. Between hammocks, reggae rhythms, spectacular
sunsets and the occasional sighting of dolphins offshore, we simply let go, slow
down and enjoy the magic of this unique Caribbean island.

Today our unforgettable journey through Mexico comes to an end. After breakfast,
your tour leader accompanies you to Cancún International Airport. We first take the
ferry back to the mainland before travelling through the tropical landscapes of the
Yucatán Peninsula on our way to the airport.
We leave with far more than just souvenirs: memories of ancient pyramids, colourful
markets, colonial cities, Caribbean beaches, delicious street food and meaningful
encounters with the people and cultures that make Mexico so unique. And perhaps,
just perhaps, with a little sand still in our shoes—a small reminder of a journey
that will stay with us long after we return home.
